Drum bolts and lugs are essential components for bolt type drum lock rings. Lugs are welded onto drum rings and drum bolts go across the lugs and close up the drum ring by tightening the nuts. This system is able to provide a strong sealing solution for the open head drum.
Unlike drum clamps, a wrench is necessary when dealing with drum bolt and lugs. Nuts on drum bolt need to be tightened up to provide enough closing power for the entire drum ring. Material mechanical strength of drum bolts and lugs directly determines the safety level of the closing system.
Drum bolts vary in shape, diameter, and thread length. Most drum bolts are made of carbon steel. Open head drums with higher volume need drum bolts with bigger diameter. Shape of some of the drum bolts are straight, while some are designed to be J shape.
Drum lugs are made of cold rolled steel, and they are different in material thickness, weldspot, and hole diameter. The mechanical strength of lugs directly affects the sealing performance of drum rings. Some drum lugs are connected to drum rings via welding, while some types are designed to be inserted into drum rings.
Size of drum bolts and drum lugs needs to match to provide enough closing force for drums. Surface of drum bolts and lugs are galvanized and will deliver the same anti-corrosion performance as drum clamp.
