How To Solve The Problem Of Scrap Iron When Trimming The Edge Of Stamping Die


When stamping die trimming, there will generally be the phenomenon of dropping iron chips, especially around the waste knife of the lower die.

Iron chip removal not only seriously affects the product quality and mold appearance cleanliness, but also reduces the production efficiency.


The analysis shows that this is related to the non-vertical trimming edge, the unconformity between the parts and the mold surface, the secondary cutting of the vertical trimming edge, the unreasonable gap of the edge, the poor finish of the edge, the secondary cutting of the scrap knife, the insufficient hardness of the edge, the deep penetration of the edge, and the unreasonable design of the mold process.


The control measures for this are:

1. Iron filings are generated at the scrap knife site

The scrap iron is mainly caused by the die process at the scrap knife site.


The measures are as follows: change the shape of the upper mold trimming waste 10mm before the edge, make it into the shape of the breakthrough edge, and mill the lower mold waste edge empty.


2. The plate is out of shape and the blade gap is unreasonable

The measures to be taken are to use OP10 drawing plate parts to buckle the profile of each part of the edge mold, repair the upper and lower edge gaps and adjust the penetration depth.


3. Edge trimming

When trimming the edge, in order to improve the quality of the section and the life of the edge, the following three measures can be adopted:


1) The fillet of the trimming edge should be 3mm larger than the fillet of the trimming piece, so as to ensure that when the upper and lower die are completely closed, the trimming edge is cut into 1-3mm, and the transition is slow.


2) The vertical edge of the trimming edge of the upper die and the vertical edge of the trimming piece are at an Angle of 10°.


3) Install the guide block as far as possible to eliminate the side force on the edge.


4. Mold process design

1) the use of two or more trimming.

The advantages of using this measure are: the cutting edge gap is reasonable, will not produce burr and trimming iron, easy to remove the waste, the quality of the parts is stable and high production efficiency.


2) overall trimming of the whole side.

3) the trimming of the central separation area of the double pieces.

The original in the production process, through the upper mold pressing material core and the lower die punch with the compression of the plate, the upper and lower die waste cutting edge with the implementation of waste separation.

Instead, the waste in the middle is cut off by the forced breakthrough knife of the upper die and cut off by the cutting edge of the convex and concave die on both sides to achieve the final separation of waste.

In this way, the lower mold waste chip discharging space is large and the waste is easy to discharge.
