On September this year, the Institution of Steel Drum Industry (ISDI) announced two new technologies to discuss the importance of using steel barrel fusible plugs.
Kyle R. Stavig, chief executive officer of ISDI Myers container Co., Ltd. and chairman of General Steel Barrel Company, said, since the invention of steel barrel, fusible barrel plug is one of the most important innovations in the steel barrel industry. When the steel barrel is used to store flammable and combustible materials, the safety of the steel barrel will be greatly increased through simple conversion by replacing a plastic nylon barrel plug with an ordinary steel barrel plug.
Fusible barrel plugs are similar to ordinary steel barrel plugs, but are made of impact resistant nylon, polyethylene or propylene resin. When equipped with a fusible bucket and equipped with a fully designed foam water spray system, the steel barrel is the most secure container available for flammable and explosive materials in the market today. It is worth noting that steel drums with soluble barrel plugs still meet the requirements of the Ministry of Transport and the United Nations for the transportation of hazardous materials. When the fusible barrel plug is used, the steel barrel shall also continue to be properly marked on the package.
Susan Nauman, executive director of ISDI, said, it is essential that manufacturers and suppliers around the world understand the needs and uses of fusible barrel plugs.
